SPEAK UP ON TUESDAY AND BEFORE

(To read the original open letter, click here or at the link on the left.)

Let's speak up on Tuesday at the Board of Supervisors and the Eureka City Council meeting, so that they know we don't want Buju Banton and his murder music to spread hate in Eureka.

The Board of Supervisors meets on Tuesday on the first floor of the Courthouse at 825 Fifth Street in Eureka. A fifteen minute public comment period is scheduled for 1:30, and there is a sign up sheet outside. The more people who come, the more the Supervisors will understand how seriously we take this.

The Eureka City Council meets at 6PM at 531 K Street in Eureka.

You can also call the Supervisors or the City Council. Click here for contact information for the Supervisors, here for contact information for the Eureka City Councillors.

  1. Wonder if Mayor Bass or her family still owns the building where Nocturnum resides? Was it sold to Gil Miracle or leased? Does the Bass family hold a mortgage note? Is there a conflict?

  2. As a local Transsexual Woman, Lyrics that provoke/promote poeple to commit violence and murder create a very real and threatning situation. Not eqactly a reason to enjoy residing and paying my taxes in humboldt county.

  3. He's also played in San Diego and a number of major cities, and I believe he's actually scheduled to play in Berkeley. I'll be surprised if that actually happens.

  5. I've looked up "Bounty Hunter" on the web and, as best I can tell, their lead singer is a racist who used "the n-word" in a tirade about his daughter marrying a black man.

I've looked for the band's song lyrics, but haven't found anything.

Anonymous, does the band sing music that encourages the murder of blacks or others? Violence against anyone? If so, please contact me or post more information here. You might also want to try contacting the elected officials listed above.

In the case of Buju Banton, there was a nationwide boycott, so it wasn't difficult to get information making it clear why we wouldn't want him in our community. Bounty Hunter (or at least its lead singer) sounds repulsive, but I don't have information that they play songs encouraging violence. Please let folks know if you have that information.

  6. For what it's worth, here's a transcript of a phone call from "Dog the Bounty Hunter" -- Duane Chapman -- to his son Tucker, apparently ordering him to break off a relationship with a black woman.

  8. I must say after hearing how u all shut down Bounty Killer, and the owner of the club has no backbone, and clearly not a man of his word and sticking up for us true reggae fans. I am looking forward to protesting any gay event you put on. Who do you think you are? Pushing your gay ass agenda on us straight people. May you get kicked in the the head by the and high horse your on.
